Turner Prize winner and University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) Professor Lubaina Himid has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list with a CBE.
The contemporary art professor, whose work is currently on display in four shows in Europe, including the Berlin Biennale in Germany, has been made a Commander Ƶ British Empire for her services to art.
Lubaina, who was also awarded an MBE in June 2010 for services to black women's art, commented: “I’m delighted to have been awarded a CBE in the 2018 Queens Birthday Honours list and sincerely hope it will enable me to continue to develop even more collaborative strategies for connecting artists to audiences in a meaningful way.”

The CBE rounds off a successful 12 months for Lubaina, who won the prestigious Turner Prize last December and was named the 2017 Artist Ƶ Year by Apollo Magazine.
Known as one Ƶ pioneers Ƶ British black arts movement back in the 1980s, Lubaina, who is also a PhD supervisor at UCLan, has spent her 35-year career shining a light on the trade in enslaved people and the contribution made by the people Ƶ Black Diaspora.
The Head Ƶ School of Art, Design and Fashion Maria Murray commented: “This is fantastic news for Lubaina and well deserved following a very successful year. Lubaina uses her high profile as a platform to speak out about the issues she is passionate about and promote other artists. I’m sure being made a CBE will only strengthen this.”
