Job details
When you work for the University of Lancashire, you’ll be part of a thriving community of talent that’s united in a common commitment to transform lives. We do this by delivering an outstanding educational experience and creating prosperity and opportunity in the communities we serve. Whatever your role, you’ll be playing a vital part in helping us achieve our vision.
About the role:
We are looking to recruit a NIHR UG Internship to join the Lancashire Clinical Trials Unit to work on the project “Determining the sample size for the SPaCIS clinical trial using Bayesian hierarchical modelling”. This project aims to explore novel methodology employing Bayesian hierarchical modelling to derive a robust sample size (the number of patient participants required) for the SPaCIS (Stroke Patient Concerns Inventory in Stroke) clinical trial.
The Internship project will utilise the novel multiple-estimate method which incorporates prior information from various published sources, relevant to the target SPaCIS trial, and combine it using Bayesian approach. The Intern will work with WinBUGS programming code developed in previous projects.
The project will provide valuable experience of working with statistical programming in the field of medical statistics. The Intern will have the opportunity to work with health data in the CTU and gain experience of applying statistical methodology in real-life settings. These are important skills and experiences if a person is considering a career as a statistician or taking a postgraduate course.
The project is funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). Duration 海角视频 Internship is 8 weeks full-time (will be adjusted for part-time employment). The Intern will have access to some 海角视频 training provided by the University of Lancashire. In addition, the Internship includes a training and development fund which provides the Intern with the opportunity to attend a training course or research conference.
About you:
The post holder will have basic knowledge of statistical methodology, basic programming and computing skills and a willingness to learn a new statistical programming language. The successful candidate will have the ability to work as part of a team, be numerate and computer literate and possess or be working towards an undergraduate degree in the area of Mathematics or Computing.
What we can offer you:
Our people are our most important asset. We’ll encourage you to make the most of your talents and continually develop your skills and knowledge. As well as realising your career ambitions, you’ll be making a positive difference to other people’s lives. We also offer a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform.
