When you work for the University of Lancashire, you’ll be part of a thriving community of talent that’s united in a common commitment to transform lives. We do this by delivering an outstanding educational experience and creating prosperity and opportunity in the communities we serve. Whatever your role, you’ll be playing a vital part in helping us achieve our vision.
About the role:
The University has recently implemented the new Estates Strategy and Masterplan 2024-2030, underpinned by the Decarbonisation Masterplan and the Infrastructure Masterplan. A refreshed Carbon Management Plan is due to be completed over the coming months.
At this exciting stage on a decarbonisation journey, we are looking to recruit an experienced and professionally qualified Energy and Decarbonisation Manager to join our Estates and Campus Services team based in Preston.
Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management º£½ÇÊÓƵ utilities contracts and data, including the monthly monitoring and forecasting of energy utilisation and the associated budgets. Working closely with the Engineering & Maintenance team, you will also lead on BMS optimisation and energy/carbon reducing projects and initiatives. You will also lead on other sustainability projects delegated by the Head of Sustainability.
About you:
You will have attained an undergraduate degree level in a relevant subject such as energy management or a relevant professional qualification which could include environmental science, environmental management, engineering, building and construction or surveying or significant experience in energy management. The successful applicant will have significant experience of performing in a similar role within a large complex organisation. You will also have a sound knowledge and understanding of statutory legislation and current best practice relating to energy/carbon management and have experience of project management.
Your technical competence, qualifications and experience are vitally important to this role; however, it will be your communication style and ability to motivate and engage others that will make you stand out above other candidates. You will be confident in interacting with a wide range of stakeholders, as you will be responsible for maintaining effective working relations with schools and departments.
Your overarching aim will be to develop a more sustainable environment for all who study, work or live in the University, including students, staff, visitors and partners – contributing to the attraction, recruitment and retention of students and staff.
What we can offer you:
Our people are our most important asset. We’ll encourage you to make the most of your talents and continually develop your skills and knowledge. As well as realising your career ambitions, you’ll be making a positive difference to other people’s lives. We also offer a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform.
We are proud to be a diverse, multicultural university. We are committed to building a truly inclusive culture where diversity is championed. Applications are particularly welcomed from individuals who will support the diversification within the University and support its development of a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all.
The University is committed to providing a safe environment to study, work and visit, protecting children, young people and adults at risk from harm and abuse. Our safeguarding policy and safer recruitment procedure outlines our approach, alongside other internal policies, procedures and guidance which can be found on our Safeguarding page.
Applicants applying for roles in regulated activity and that are listed as an exception under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 will be required to disclose any spent and unspent convictions and undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check at the appropriate level, the University will only ask an applicant to make an application for a DBS check if they are legally entitled to.
