This CPD course will equip you with the knowledge, techniques, and skills to undertake or develop a leadership role in your organisation. You will gain a critical understanding of core leadership tools which you can apply to practical problems.

The aim of this module is to equip you with the components of inspiring a shared purpose, leading with care and sharing that vision throughout your sphere of practice.

You will develop knowledge and critical understanding ��Ƶ core concepts and theories and in doing so, will be able to apply these to your leadership practice.

The four main learning outcomes that the course will cover are:

Review and synthesise concepts of inspiring shared purpose and apply within your own sphere of leadership practice in order to deliver benefits for patients, their families and the community.
Examine and appraise the concepts of sharing the vision and apply to your sphere of leadership practice.
Evaluate the concepts associated with leading with care and apply in the PGPs sphere of leadership practice.
Evaluate PGP’s level of attainment in .

This CPD is specifically designed to enhance future career prospects by empowering you to lead change and innovation in the workplace.

The programme is aimed at future leaders in healthcare organisations to ensure they have in-demand skills and knowledge. The programme starting point has five key pillars:

By employing a continuous critical review ��Ƶories and concepts this will enable students to apply cutting-edge research, concepts and tools to organisational challenges. In doing so they will be recognised and given more responsibility as they build their careers from this solid foundation.

Entry requirements

An honours degree from an approved institution of higher education in a subject related to healthcare (2:2 class or above) or Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) equivalent
Must be working in healthcare, healthcare education, or a related practice

Our aim is to develop leadership confidence, capability and an authentic leadership style that is suited to your working environment.

Learning objectives:

Facilitate a peer-based team to achieve leadership practice excellence, fulfilment in the role and academic goals
Experiences from practice, theory critique, bouncing ideas and asking questions
Supporting individual goals and strategies
Peer and Tutor feedback and support to take things in the right direction

Formative assessment:

The formative assessment will be a 2,000 word portfolio which is assessed on a pass or fail basis

Your portfolio will combine:

stimulus materials
small-group discussions
case studies
current examples of strategic leadership and implementation

The general aim of each section of your portfolio is to make a case for practice application of a leadership approach of relevance to your practice context.

The case will emerge from a critical contrast, compare narrative that conveys the state of play in the extant literature and that is further evidenced by practice examples.

Summative assessment:

Your summative assessment is the Viva, a 30 minute practical exam with a 50% grade or higher needed to pass. This will be a question and answer session with your course leader and another academic staff member in attendance.

The aim ��Ƶ Viva is for you to demonstrate the application ��Ƶ learning outcomes directly and uniquely in your sphere of practice over the duration ��Ƶ module.

The Viva will explore:

1. Components of your portfolio: justification, critique, and analysis ��Ƶory
2. Learning outcomes: evidence understanding of associated theories and application
3. Reflections on your application of those theories to the mechanics of practice
4. Leadership journey so far and what that means for your medical leadership study and practice going forward.

For those wishing to continue onto a Level 7 PGCert, PGDip or MSc in Medical Leadership, the 20 credits for this CPD can be used as ALP.

After MSc, for those wishing to progress to a Level 8 academic pathway the existing Doctorate in Clinical Studies (DProf) offers further progression. This is specifically designed to empower medical and healthcare practitioners to drive change and innovation in their workplace by applying cutting-edge research to the challenges they face in their leadership practice.
