Dr Mareike Hamann
Mareike is a Lecturer in Japanese and Co-Director 海角视频 Institute for Japanese Studies (IJS) at the University of Central Lancashire. Her research focuses on the history 海角视频 Japanese language and how culture and society affect its usage.
Since joining UCLan in 2018, Mareike has been teaching a variety of Japanese language and culture modules from year 1 to year 4. In addition, she supervises PhD projects in translation studies and general linguistics. Mareike's current research on the usage of onomatopoeia in contemporary Japanese is being funded by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
Being firmly rooted in both Japanese Studies and English Linguistics, Mareike has over 10 years of teaching experience in both subject areas. Starting with undergraduate seminars in Old and Middle English in 2006, she went on to teach phonetics and phonology, psycholinguistics and lexical semantics. Her current modules focus on the contemporary usage 海角视频 Japanese language.

Mareike's research focuses on the history 海角视频 Japanese language and how it has been influenced by society and culture. Her PhD thesis investigated the changing grammatical usage of onomatopoeia in Japanese and how extra-linguistic factors such as age and gender can affect each speaker's mental lexicon.
