Following Lisa’s appointment to University of Central Lancashire six years ago she has continuously developed her role working across schools to deliver teaching on a wide range of subject areas and gaining promotion from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer. Lisa has progressed previously as module leader for Care º£½ÇÊÓƵ Adult with Diabetes and Promoting and Influencing Health, and course leader for the BSc (Hons) Professional Practice. Lisa’s current role is course lead for the BSc (Hons) Community Specialist Practitioner, Community Nursing in the Home and Children’s Community Nursing and Postgraduate Diploma Community Specialist Practitioner, Community Nursing in the Home and Children’s Community Nursing.

Prior to Lisa’s employment here, her clinical roles have always had a community focus. Previous employment as a District Nurse, covering all aspects of care both day, evening and night emergency care and as a General Practice Nurse with progression to Continuing Health Care Senior Clinical Reviewer has provided Lisa with vital elements which support her teaching. Lisa’s interest and passion in teaching began whilst still in practice following completion º£½ÇÊÓƵ BSc (Hons) Community Specialist Practitioner General Practice Nursing, when she was invited to teach on the Advanced Certificate in Asthma & COPD on an ad hoc basis. This developed further into informal short teaching sessions within the practice with all members of staff including receptionist and GPs. Lisa has gained her Post Graduate Certificate in Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Diabetes and a Masters with Distinction in Diabetes Management. The focus of Lisa's dissertation is Health Education and its influence on weight loss through lifestyle choices in Type 2 Diabetes. The focus of this applied research was community nurses and how they facilitate this in practice. Lisa maintains and develops professional skills through literature, formative discussion with colleagues and contact with other professional disciplines. Lisa attends monthly multi professional clinical meetings with hospital and community staff addressing current issues and changes under development, thus maintain clinical links and support for mentors and assessors. Lisa also attend community health professionals bi-monthly diabetes forums which ensures relations between university and community staff are maintained. Lisa recently published with colleagues from UCLan a teaching tool for pre and post registration nurses in the prevention and management of hyperglycaemic crisis. Lisa has been involved in contributing to a module for the School, focusing on the management of acute crisis in diabetes. Lisa attended the ‘Older people's symposium’ at Lancaster University where the focus was on research into fracture prevention in the elderly. This has led Lisa and another colleague liaising with Community Trusts in relation to the development of a Masters frailty module which will be delivered in both the Advanced Practitioner MSc and MSc in Healthcare Practice. These modules are underpinned by government initiatives, policy used in assessment and clinical decision making, and student expressions of interest
